Physio in Seaford: How to choose one that won’t tell you to stop training

Fox Physio is a Seaford physiotherapy clinic for people who lift, run and train. This guide covers what to look for in a physio if you train, what happens at your first 45-minute appointment, the injuries we see most and how to book. No GP referral needed, with HICAPS available on-site.

Search “physio near me” from anywhere in Seaford and you’ll find a list of clinics. But finding a physio who understands your training goals, and can help you work towards them without unnecessarily putting your training on hold, makes all the difference.

Fox Physio is a Seaford physio clinic built for people who train. Our whole team trains the way our clients do and understands the demands of strength training, running and functional fitness. We start from one belief: you don’t have to stop the training you love to get better.

Here’s what to look for in a Seaford physio, what to expect at your first session and how to tell if we’re the right fit for you.

What to look for in a Seaford physio if you train

Not every physio is the right physio for a lifter, runner or Hyrox athlete. When you’re comparing options, look for these five things.

They ask about your training, not just your pain.

Your program, your lifts, your weekly load and your goals all shape the plan. If no one asks what you squat or how many kilometres you run, the advice will be generic.

They modify, they don’t just stop.

Rest has its place, but a blanket “no gym for six weeks” usually leaves you weaker and less confident. A good physio adjusts load, range or exercise selection so you can keep training while you heal.

They look for contributing factors.

Pain isn’t always as simple as one weak muscle or a faulty movement. A good physio considers your training load, movement patterns, strength, recovery, work and lifestyle to build a plan that addresses what may be contributing to your symptoms.

They give you a path back.

You should leave your first appointment knowing what’s going on, what to do this week and what the milestones are on the way back to full training.

They understand your sport.

Our team understands the demands of lifting and training, from powerlifting and bodybuilding to CrossFit, running and Hyrox. Laura brings a powerlifting background, and our clinicians draw on experience in strength and conditioning, sports rehabilitation and hands-on treatment to help you train with confidence.

What happens at your first physio appointment

Your first session at Fox Physio runs for approximately 45 minutes and covers four things.

  1. A proper conversation. We discuss how the injury or pain started, what makes it better or worse and what your training looks like right now.
  2. Assessment and movement testing. Alongside standard clinical tests, we’ll often watch you move the way you train (a squat, hinge, press or run) to better understand your body and movement patterns. We reassess relevant movements after treatment to see how your body responds, track progress and guide the next steps in your rehab.
  3. A clear diagnosis in plain English. You’ll know what we think is going on and why, without the jargon.
  4. A plan you can start today. That includes hands-on treatment to help relieve pain and get you moving better, a modified training plan for the week ahead and rehab exercises designed to address the contributing factors.

Bring your training program or log if you have one, and wear clothes you can comfortably move in.

Hands-on physiotherapy treatment at Fox Physio

Hands-on treatment is one part of the plan. Your rehab and modified training do the rest.

Common reasons people see a physio in Seaford

We see all kinds of injuries, but these come through our door most often:

  • Lower back pain from deadlifts, squats, long days at a desk, or all three
  • Shoulder pain with pressing, overhead work or pull-ups
  • Knee pain from squatting, running or jumping
  • Elbow and wrist pain from heavy barbell lifts
  • Hip and glute pain, including pinching during squats or the deep ache that shows up during or after longer runs
  • Running and Hyrox niggles as training volume climbs, including shin, calf and Achilles pain
  • Acute muscle strains and tendon overload injuries

Getting an injury assessed early can help you manage symptoms, adjust your training and avoid unnecessary time away from the activities you enjoy. Waiting for an issue to settle on its own can sometimes allow it to persist or worsen. See the full list of injuries we commonly treat on our What We Treat page.

Physiotherapy or myotherapy?

Both help, and they work well together. Physiotherapy is generally the best starting point when you need an injury assessment, diagnosis and rehab plan, while myotherapy can help with muscular pain, tension and hands-on treatment.

If you’re unsure where to start, our team can help you choose the right appointment based on your symptoms and goals. Fill in your details here and we’ll help you decide, or call us on 0409 541 894.
